SEWING BOAT BY MILITZA MCCARTHY
I started sewing roughly 3 years ago, my trade before was as a chef, I took a city and guilds course in tailoring 2014. I love using quality wools and tweeds for my work and source wools made in Great Britain. With fabrics stashed up and a front extension on the boat I decided to start trading on the boat. Having had a few customers from my Etsy site and orders from friends too. It was a pleasure to get some interest from fellow traders After meeting Joshua from the beverage boat at Norbury festival in May his wife Kayleigh was keen to have a waistcoat made for him they chose a lovely Scottish tweed fabric, I took some vital measurements and arranged to meet at a later date at Chester in July.
Another order came from Brian greaves on the Blacksmith boat again his wife Jane was keen for Brian to have an upgrade from his current leather waistcoat a bit on the small side for him. (I gladly took this off his hands as it was a good fit for myself). The Scottish tweed was again chosen with a wool back instead of lining. I arranged again to catch up at a later date. Meanwhile in Chester We spent a short while in the basin so decided to put a few things on show. I was approached by a lady who wanted a waistcoat for her husband Jed to wear for his job on the Chester heritage tours as the driver. The couple both worked on the bus and they dressed up in lovely Edwardian clothing They were boaters too and had moorings just by the basin. The waistcoat was a good fit on Jed, so I thought I would go and see them in action on the vintage bus which started just outside the town hall. I got pictures of Jed in his black and gold waistcoat and his wife in her stunning costume and their boss too. Both Joshua on the beverage boat and Brian on the blacksmiths boat came to Chester for the floating Market. I was still in the area and took their waistcoats to them. I took some photos of them wearing them and very smart they looked too. |
