AN UPDATE FROM HERE BE DRAGONS BY KIT ACOTT
It’s all about sustainability aboard Kit Acott and Mike Poole’s boat Here Be Dragons.
A couple of patients collect their herb teas in their own jars, whilst having a cup of tea next door at Cake on the Cut to revive them before they walk back to their boat. Kits next herb walk is at Atherstone on the 25th July. A gentle walk followed by a demonstration of how to prepare teas, tinctures and topical remedies. |

Towpath Herb Walks With Herbalist Kit Acott
Kit Acott and Mike Poole travel the English waterways aboard Here Be Dragons with their dog Charlie. They have traded from the day they moved onto the cut, because they needed to make a living and because it’s a great way to get to know both other boaters and locals in the places we moor up. They sell plants, medicinal herbs, essential oils plus books, china and collectibles.
Kit is a qualified herbalist and after a long career in clinic, she now teaches as we move about the country running courses for both lay people interested in identifying plants and courses for herbalists as well. Kit has been a practising herbalist for 20 years. She worked for Napier’s in Edinburgh, the largest herbal practice in the UK for many years, as well as lecturing in Materia Medica and Clinical Practice. She has guest lectured at UCLAN, Lincoln University, and Napier University and spoken at home and abroad. This year she will be leading herb walks in Stone on the Trent and Mersey, New Mills on the Peak Forest, Atherstone on the Coventry, Berkhamsted on the Grand Union and Kingswood on the Stratford. A 2½hr herb walk involves a gentle https://m.facebook.com/thetowpathherbalist walk along the towpath identifying the numerous medicinal plants to be found along the way. The walks are limited to a maximum of six people so listening is easy and there is plenty of time for questions. After completing the walk the group return to the back cabin of Here Be Dragons for a demonstration of making herbal preparations. Kit demonstrates making a herb tea, a poultice and an ointment. Participants will also receive a booklet, the Towpath Dozen, featuring 12 herbs to be found on the towpath throughout the seasons. The Course costs £25 and early booking is advised. |
