Lesley Pearson, Jellygnomes
Lesley’s drawings and sketches are inspired by her everyday experiences and the nature around her, along with her extensive travels along 2,000 miles of Inland Waterways in the UK. She writes poetry, makes illustrated maps and wildlife drawings which all feeds into her work.
The wildlife drawings Lesley creates are truly unique and otherworldly – real life encounters with her wildlife neighbours who live around her. Inspired by her travels, she began to create illustrated maps of her routes, filled with history, nature and landmarks are woven into the maps. Lesley mixes her wonderful sense of colour together with a quality of stillness which draws you in, encouraging you to slow down and sit with the imagery. Unique and completely gorgeous, Lesley’s illustrations has it all.
Following the sad loss of her husband Rob last year, Lesley has been taking stock and is now working from a new, land-based, studio. It is part of an Open Studios initiative at the Retford Arts Hub, based in Retford market town on the Chesterfield Canal, Nottinghamshire. Rob will be sadly missed with his wit and humour by many, a great character on the cut.
