CANAL & RIVER TRUST WINS AWARD FOR OPENNESS
The Canal & River Trust has won the award in the charity category for Openness in Reporting at the Building Public Trust in Corporate Reporting Awards 2018, it was announced last night. Now in their 16th year, the Awards celebrate organisations who are leading the way in the openness of their communications to stakeholders.
The focus of the award was on charities that clearly articulate what they do, why their activities are important, what their outcomes have been and what their plans are for the future. Wider considerations included how charities explained their societal contribution and impact to their stakeholders in the context of the environment in which they operate, their viability and governance, and key ‘hot topics’ facing the sector.
Sandra Kelly, Finance Director at Canal & River Trust, said: “We are delighted to receive this award. Transparency and clarity lie at the heart of our reporting. We want everyone to be able to pick up a copy of our annual report and understand the triumphs we’ve celebrated and the challenges we face. In an uncertain economic and political landscape keeping our existing supporters informed, while also reaching new audiences, is vital to securing the long-term future of the waterways. Our reporting has to tell the story and we are pleased that the effectiveness of our communications has been recognised.”
In the Charity category, all Registered Charities in the Charity Finance ‘Charity 100 Index’ were automatically reviewed by a judging panel, who looked at the latest publicly available trustees’ annual report and accounts, and associated year end reporting documents, up to the reporting period ended 31 March 2018.
